For Halloween 1986, I wanted to do
something dark and spooky, and came upon the idea of a generic "sorceress" look.
The robe is made of a cheap heavyweight black broadcloth, sewn without a pattern; though this photo doesn't show it, there are jagged drops and scraps of fabric hanging from the sleeves for more of an "evil" look (I was thinking Maleficent in Sleeping Beauty). It's full length and worn over a simple black turtleneck and leggings. The belt is braided and knotted grey silk fiber from India, bought from a small import shop. The pins on the robe are crescent moons; the pendant is a dragon clutching a crystal ball, and the earring visible under my hair is an iridescent ankh, worn on two narrow hoops strung together. The black cat is a candleholder, not yet lit. The makeup is Revlon silver eyeshadow on both lids and lips (put on lips with some clear gloss), Revlon black shadow along the lids and in the cheek hollows, and a whole lot of black liquid eyeliner done Egyptian-style around the eyes. The nails are false, the classic Lee Press-On Nails, painted with Wet 'n' Wild black and silver glitter. It apparently did not occur to me at the time that bright blond hair did not make for a "spooky" look... |
