Usually, on Sundays at cons, I don't wear
a real "costume"; instead I go for something that is gothy and has a sort of
vintage feel. This is what I wore on Sunday at Norwescon 23 in April 2000. All
the pieces in this outfit are modern, but the shapes and the way they're put
together give the look of an outfit that might have been seen
towards the end of the Edwardian/Great War years.
The purple coatdress (which can also be seen in my Gothic Buccaneer costume) has a high waist, wide short lapels and full "skirt." It's buttoned from bust to hip, over a black lace shirt from Chadwick's of Boston and black velvet skirt from JC Penney, and the sleeves are rolled under so that the lace of the shirt can be seen. Accessories are a beautiful early-style cloche hat bought at a J. Peterman store (I wish the photo did the hat justice, it's truly gorgeous), black velvet gloves, and silver and pearl Art Nouveau-style earrings and "breastplate" necklace from Angelwear Creations. There's also a walking stick, which can't really be seen. Makeup keeps with the gothy purple-and-black theme, but is a little more subtle than some of my other outfits--soft purple and lavender shadows, black liner and mascara, and dusty purple lipstick. I'm sorry that this photo doesn't show the entire outfit. My photographer seems to have had some sort of brain cramp about taking my costume photos that weekend, but hopefully at some future date I can get a full-length photo that shows off the whole outfit. |
